• What Affects the Cost? The base price for new tank + drain field is around $15,000. Below are the factors that make it less or more:
  
  • Is a new tank needed? If an old system is only getting the drain field replaced and a new tank is not needed, the cost will be approximately $3,000 less.
  • Number of bedrooms: 2-3 bedroom homes are the least expensive sized system. Depending on the County Health Department permit, once a house reaches 4 bedrooms, the tank and drain field are sized larger and it increases the cost of the system.
  • Soil type: 3 types of systems based on the soil. The cheapest is a gravity system where the property has sandy soil. Heavier soils like clay may require a deep cut and sand fill or a large sand mound (Above ground system) and dosing tank. When a permit is pulled with the health department, the soils report determines the specs for what type of system is needed. Deep Cut and Mound systems price increases are based on the amount of dirt dug out and the amount of washed sand needed to meet permit requirements.
  • Is Advanced Treatment needed?: An engineered septic system like SludgeHammer® can be beneficial when there is limited lot space, the home is close to a lake or high water table, or the property has high strength waste like an Airbnb, restaurant or hotel.
